Interactive workshops are delivered face-to-face, in small groups of 6-12 people and consist of a combination of slides, demos with materials, discussion and group activities. Workshops are for adults only and take place at Casa, 75 Viewforth EH10 4LL.

How Montessori Can Help your Child

This workshop titled "How Montessori can help your child" introduces parents and carers to Montessori's perspective on childhood, the needs of the small child, and the vital part that adults play. Through a slide presentation and discussion we will discover how the well-being of the child corresponds to freedom, autonomy and concentration and how to use that knowledge to create an ideal environment for your child.

Montessori Language and Communication

What kind of messages do we want to give our children and how do the words we choose affect their behaviour? How do we keep our day to day interactions with our children in harmony with our greater goals as parents? We will cover practical tools to communicate with dignity and respect using real-life scenarios and brainstorm solutions aiming to strengthen connections with our children. Pre-requisite: None.

Nurturing Creativity

This interactive session explores the Montessori view of creativity, creative development, and attitudes and approaches that support the natural emergence of the imagination and critical thinking. We discuss how to encourage self-expression and look at examples of activities for exploration, experimentation, and creative skills through play. Pre-requisite: none.

Montessori Activities at Home

This demonstration introduces parents and home-based carers to activities you can assemble at home to help children develop their hands, senses and movement, learn essential life skills, extend their attention span, learn rich language, and awaken their curiosity about the world. We will talk about what makes these materials engaging to children and how to create, organise and present them. Pre-requisite: Introduction Workshop

Children's language and literacy

This workshop gives you the tools to observe and support your child's emerging language and literacy from birth to age 6/7. We will cover an early literacy sequence that enables your child to teach him/herself to write and read for pleasure.

Montessori in the Family

(6 x 2 hours)

£140 / £125 members

Series of six sessions on using Montessori to inform your parenting or childcare. Short readings and exercises animate discussion. Topics are: Being a Parent; Playing with Children; Helping children Thrive; Relationships; Talking with Children; Behaviour and Independence. The resource book "Learning Together" is included in the workshop fee. Pre-requisite: None.

Material-Making Workshop

Wednesday, November 6th

6:00pm (3 hours)

£40 / £27 members

If you're somewhat familiar with the Montessori approach, you may like to join us for some craft and conversation while getting into your project, or one of the suggested projects. Make something your little one can use at home while trying techniques and tools you may not have thought you could tackle!  Materials provided. Pre-requisites: none, though some experience of Montessori is useful.

Children's mathematical development

This workshop is designed to help you recognise mathematical thinking and encourage your child's love of maths and self-directed learning. We will cover a basic numeracy sequence that helps the child understand maths concepts through play.
